Theo ngôn ngữ học tri nhận, đa phần các ẩn dụ văn chương đều phát triển dựa trên ẩn dụ ý niệm vốn tồn tại phổ biến trong tư duy và ngôn ngữ đời thường. Bài viết này mô tả và phân tích các ẩn dụ ý niệm về đạo đức và những biểu hiện của chúng trong ngôn ngữ văn chương, cụ thể trong tiểu thuyết ngắn “Vụ việc dị thường về bác sĩ Jekyll và ông Hyde”. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy ẩn dụ phức ĐẠO ĐỨC LÀ SỨC MẠNH, bao gồm các ẩn dụ căn bản: LÀM VIỆC TỐT LÀ ĐỨNG THẲNG, LÀM VIỆC XẤU LÀ TÉ NGÃ, CÓ ĐẠO ĐỨC LÀ CAO, VÔ ĐẠO ĐỨC LÀ THẤP, CÁI ÁC LÀ NGUỒN LỰC và SỨC MẠNH TINH THẦN LÀ SỨC MẠNH THỂ CHẤT, được sử dụng thường xuyên trong tác phẩm với những biểu hiện đa dạng, nhằm mô tả các nhân vật và cuộc chiến giữa thiện và ác. Các ẩn dụ này có liên kết chặt chẽ với nhau, góp phần làm tăng tính liên kết của các ẩn dụ ngôn ngữ, giúp củng cố chủ đề và thông điệp của toàn tác phẩm.
