Investigating the ionization process of noble gas atoms by a static electric field using Seigert state method

We investigate the energy shift and ionization rate of noble gas atoms by a static electric field using Siegert state method. The Siegert states of an atom and molecule in a static electric field are the solutions to the stationary Schrödinger equation satisfying specific boundary conditions. Results show that for weak electric field, the energy shift and ionization rate as functions of electric field can be explained by the perturbation and weak-field asymptotic theory, respectively. Nevertheless, these approximation theories fail to explain the behavior of energy shift and ionization rate for strong electric field.
